daft punk
I can remember exactly when I became a fan of daft punk. it was in 2010 and TRON: legacy was out in theatres. I remember going to watch it because they did the soundtrack for it - I knew who they were and I liked their music already, and I enjoyed watching their music videos on youtube.
I had always loved electronic music, but I was pretty clueless. daft punk was really my only glimpse into the french house genre at the time.
so, watching TRON, I remember being sooo amazed by the soundtrack. i'd never heard music that spoke to me like that before. it really was life-changing for me! I remember hearing "derezzed" for the first time and just being stunned at how incredible it sounded, I couldn't believe it. I really fell in love with electronic music at this point.
I went and bought the TRON soundtrack CD just so I could hear all the tracks again, especially derezzed!!! I loved listening to it in my dad's car on the stereo! I was now a daft punk fan for life!
fast forward a few years to the release of their new album, RAM. I pre-ordered it, the first album I ever pre-ordered. I remember being so hyped to listen to each new song. I was so lucky I got to experience that, with it being their final album.
I got to see them on tv win all their awards, and their adorably long hug during the ceremony. it was a really special time for fans and again i'm just so so glad I got to experience it.

I woke up to messages from friends telling me daft punk were finished making music together. somehow, I wasn't really shocked. I always suspected RAM was the end, with the memory motif, and the hug during the ceremony. it just felt like their way of saying goodbye, to disappear into obscurity without really announcing it.
I was sad that I had to stop hoping for them to tour again. if I could see them live it would have been a dream come true. I'm soooo envious of everyone who got to experience ALIVE 2007. it's my favourite live album!
I did get to see their friends in concert, though. phoenix, busy p, and justice. all amazing shows! busy p even played technologic, so that's the closest i'll get to seeing them live!

my favourite song by daft punk is a difficult choice, but there's just something about DA FUNK (hence my site's name) that really vibes with me. I love the 'walking around at night in a big city' feeling it has, especially with the music video.
my favourite album is DISCOVERY, as much as I love the old school vibes of HOMEWORK. man I couldn't tell you how many times i've watched interstella 5555!
daft punk are a huge inspiration to me creativity-wise, their music changed my life and they will always have a special place in my heart. thanks for everything, thomas and guy-man!
