ryu ga gotoku
I started playing the ryu ga gotoku series in 2017, with yakuza 0. I thought kiryu was handsome and completely fell in love with him right from the first cutscene.
my friend kate and I became obsessed with it, she loved majima as much as I loved kiryu. we still do!!
yakuza 0 quickly became one of my favourite games of all time, I wanted to 100% it but man, jrpg completionism is intense... I gave up. I learned how to play hanafuda from it though.
from here I ended up playing through the other games, keeping up to date with the localisations. it's definitely one of my favourite series of all time. some of my favourite japanese actors are in the games, which is awesome!!
in 2019 I was lucky enough to visit kabukicho in japan. it was during the night and seeing the huge red sign lit up was unforgettable! I remember walking around wondering where the karaoke place from the games was, only to turn around and see it next to me haha. it was super surreal, seeing a place I knew from a videogame irl.
